Every people has its own way of saying things, its own special expressions. Some expressions describe people who are important, or at least who think they are.
One such expression is bigwig. In the 17th century, important men in Europe began to wear hair pieces, called wigs. As years passed, wigs began to get bigger. The size of a man's wig depended on how important he was. The more important he was, or thought he was, the bigger the wig he wore. Some wigs were so large they covered a man's shoulders or back. |

모든 사람들은 사물을 표현하는 자기 나름대로의 방법, 자기의 독특한 표현들을 가지고 있다. 어떤 표현들은 중요한 사람 또는 적어도 스스로 중요하다고 생각하는 사람들을 묘사한다.
이러한 표현 중의 하나가 bigwig이다. 17세기 유럽의 중요한 사람들은 wig라고 불리는 가발을 쓰기 시작했다. 해가 지날수록 가발은 점점 더 커지기 시작했다. 가발의 크기는 사람이 중요한 정도에 따라 결정되었다. 사람이 중요할수록 또는 스스로 그러하다고 생각할수록 그가 쓰는 가발은 커졌다. 어떤 가발은 너무나 커서 사람의 어깨나 등까지 뒤덮을 정도였다.
