The mayor of a big American city and his wife Kate were inspecting a construction project one day.
A hard-hatted laborer called out to them.
"Kate, remember me?" he asked. "We used to date in high school."
Later, the mayor teased his wife.
"Aren't you glad you married me? You could have been the wife of a construction worker instead of the wife of the mayor."
Responded Kate, "You should be glad you have married me. If you hadn't, he would have been the mayor of this city."
