When I first started college, the Dean came in and said "Good Morning" to all of us. When we echoed back to him, he responded "Oh, you're freshmen."

He explained. "When you walk in and say good morning, and they say good morning back, it's Freshmen. When they put their newspapers down and open their books, it's sophomores. When they look up so they can see the instructor over the tops of the newspapers, it's juniors. When they put their feet up on the desks and keep reading, it's seniors."

    대학생 학년 구분법

    내가 처음 대학생활을 시작했을 때, 학장이 들어와서 우리들에게 “안녕하세요”라고 인사를 했다. 우리가 되받아 인사를 하자, 그는 말했다. “아, 여러분들은 신입생이군요.”

    그는 설명했다. “교실에 들어가 인사를 했을 때, 학생들이 되받아 인사를 하면, 신입생입니다. 신문을 내려놓고, 책을 펴들면 2학년이죠. 신문 위로 시선을 들어 강사를 바라보면 3학년입니다. 발을 책상 위에 올려놓고, 계속 읽고 있으면, 4학년입니다.”
